Question: How can I create peace in my life?

SRI CHINMOY:  You cannot have peace in your outer life unless and until you have first established peace in your inner life. It is in the inner world that everything starts. Early in the morning, if you treasure a few divine thoughts before coming out of your home, then these thoughts will enter into your outer life as energising, fulfilling realities.

Early in the morning, before you enter into the hustle and bustle of life, you should meditate regularly for fifteen minutes or half an hour. Then when you come out of your house into the world, you will be well protected—not with armour but with divine thoughts, divine ideas and a divine goal.

When we mediate properly, we are bound to feel peace of mind. We are also bound to feel that we have a very large heart, which can house the entire world. We will feel spontaneous joy. Sometimes we may not know where this joy is coming from, but it actually comes from our own meditation.

Deep within us there is eternal silence, peace and poise. When we are absolutely calm and quiet, we see that the inner life offers us its own energy. Our human mind may not understand this energy because it does not originate in the mind. It is our heart that receives this energy from the soul. During deep meditation, only the heart operates. The activity of the mind is totally silenced. The heart identifies with peace, and inside this peace we cultivate the inner truth and grow into the inner light.

Unless and until we have peace deep within us, we can never hope to have peace in the outer world. You and I create the world by the vibrations that we offer to it. If we can invoke peace and then offer it to somebody else, we will see how peace expands from one to two persons, and gradually to the world at large. Peace will come about in the world from the perfection of individuals. If you have peace, I have peace, and he and she have peace, then automatically universal peace will dawn.
