Escape the Winter Blues without Escaping the Country

Having recently discovered Persian lime, I can assure you that it doesn’t take a trip around the world to lighten your mood during these winter months! Citrus oils always lend a spark of sunshine into your day. Persian lime is like splitting open the rind of a delicious lime, sharp and fresh, unlike the other limes which tend to be sweeter (and there’s nothing wrong with that-who doesn’t love a green lollipop!). Bergamot is definitely a mood-enhancer. This lovely citrus oil is also a stress-reducer and through this characteristic, can promote a healthy sleep.

Of course, there are many other plant-based oils that can be used to cheer us up anytime. You may have heard about baking an apple pie when selling a house. That is because the scents are inviting and happy. Foody scents like cinnamon, clove, cardamon and ginger are all warming aromas which can be used for the same effect. Peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen and sweet birch are all oils that make one feel refreshed, revitalized and energized.

What aromatherapists call ‘base’ oils, and I group into the spiritual category, can be used to promote calm. Frankincense has been used for centuries for this purpose. Rose is another oil that evokes pure happiness. It is a tonic for the heart in all ways. Sandalwood is another great oil to promote calm and relaxation, as is jasmine.

Wondering about what these oils smell like? Come in to Planet Botanix: we have over 100 therapeutic grade essential oils to share!
