Through Shaking to Savasana

Who would think that “out of control” shaking is good for us?

The Kalahari bushmen of South Africa know this is so. The bushmen and women of the Kalahari (see Bradford Keeney) continue to this day a shaking healing tradition that dates back thousands of years. Qigong masters know this is so. There is a qigong practice called “shaking the tree” that literally allows one to shake to the core (see Kim Eng – shaking practice). The Quakers and Shakers knew this is so. Quakers and Shakers, danced, quaked and shaked in ecstatic union with the Divine (see Bradford Keeney). The providers of TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) know this is so. Military personnel and others dealing with trauma are finding relief through TRE (see David Berceli). Animals, after experiencing trauma know this to be so. Prey animals, after the chase and escape will tremor (see Peter A. Levine).

Personally, I have recently found relief from an essential tremor I’ve had in my hands since my early twenties. Activation of the natural tremor mechanism in the body through TRE releases tension and trauma that has been stored in the body for who knows how long. It works on fascia, from the inside out. It takes care of the body. TRE are “bottom-up” much like yoga postures that focus on the body.

In any case, whether you’re shaking the night away on the dance floor, quaking and shaking to connect to Divine Presence, shaking it off naturally to release chronic tension and trauma in the body, when the ‘shaking all over” is over give yourself lots of time to experience the state of savasana in deep relaxation. Likened to “after the sound there is silence,” after the shake there is savasana. This is where the healing takes place. Om Shanti.
